The UEFA Champions League league phase concluded its third matchday with significant shifts in the standings, highlighted by a difficult night for French clubs. While Paris Saint-Germain maintained its position near the top, other French representatives faced major challenges during their respective fixtures.

LOSC suffered a tough 4-2 defeat at the hands of Galatasaray, pushing the French side down to the 35th spot in the tournament standings. The loss compounds a difficult campaign so far for the team as they try to navigate the demanding European competition.

Alongside LOSC, RC Lens also experienced a setback on the matchday, falling 3-0 to Club Bruges. This result placed RC Lens in the 27th position of the league phase table, leaving French clubs outside of Paris looking for answers as the tournament progresses.

At the very top of the standings, the competition intensified significantly after the completion of the third round of matches. Paris Saint-Germain previously secured the lead following a resounding 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona.

However, PSG was joined at the top of the table by three other contenders who also reached nine points. Aston Villa triumphed over Viking Stavanger with a score of 3-1, Real Madrid defeated the RB Leipzig squad 4-1, and Real Betis claimed a 1-0 win against Feyenoord.

These victories mean there are now five teams sharing the lead in the league phase standings alongside Liverpool. Meanwhile, Arsenal secured a spot inside the top eight following a hard-fought 2-2 draw away against Bayern Munich.

As the Champions League moves past its third matchday, clubs are beginning to separate themselves in the race for the knockout stages. For teams like LOSC and RC Lens, the upcoming fixtures will be crucial to climb out of the lower tier of the standings and revive their European ambitions.
