Luise Bhr Leaves Die Bergretter After Twelve Seasons
The popular actress departs the ZDF series as her character faces a leukemia diagnosis, with a new role already lined up in a fresh crime drama.
Fans of the long-running ZDF drama Die Bergretter are facing a major departure as actress Luise Bhr steps away from the series after twelve years. Bhr has been a defining face of the show since 2014, portraying emergency physician Dr. Katharina Strasser through numerous dramatic mountain rescues.
The upcoming 18th season, which premieres on Thursday, October 29, at 8:15 PM on ZDF and is already available in the media library, will mark her final episodes. In the current storyline, her beloved character receives a shocking leukemia diagnosis, setting the stage for a deeply emotional exit.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Bhr described her final helicopter flight over the Dachstein region as a poignant experience. "It is my last flight in the red jacket now," she shared with ZDF, noting that the moment brought a mix of sadness and profound gratitude after years of intense physical and emotional work.
Playing an empathetic emergency doctor in high alpine conditions required rigorous concentration and stamina. The production utilized stunning locations around Ramsau am Dachstein, including the fictional Emilie farm, the local hospital, and the Stoderzinken filming site, often drawing crowds of observant fans.
While her departure from the mountains marks the end of an era, Bhr is quickly transitioning to a new television project. She is trading the alpine peaks for the northern coast to star as lead detective Katrin Schuhmann in a brand-new ZDF crime format titled SOKO Spurenjäger.
Filmed in and around Hamburg since August, the new series follows Schuhmann as she collaborates with forensic experts at the Hamburg Criminal Technology Institute, led by criminal biologist Prof. Dr. Tim Kohlbeck, played by Josha Kiefer. Unlike previous local iterations, this new series is a standalone addition to the network's crime lineup.
As audiences prepare to say goodbye to Dr. Strasser in the upcoming seven episodes of Die Bergretter, viewers can look forward to watching Bhr tackle complex investigations and personal dynamics in her new coastal role.
