Philadelphia Eagles Expect Running Back Saquon Barkley Back for Monday Night Football
The struggling Eagles look to welcome back their star running back as they prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys.
The Philadelphia Eagles received a much-needed boost ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Following a difficult six-week start to the 2026 NFL season, running back Saquon Barkley is expected to return to practice and is in line to play in the primetime divisional clash.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Barkley was scheduled to return to team practice on Thursday. "Eagles RB Saquon Barkley is expected to return to practice today and is in line to play Monday against the Cowboys, sources say," Garafolo reported.
Sitting at a 2-4 record, the Eagles have struggled significantly this season, hampered further by injuries. The running game has been heavily limited due to Barkley's physical setbacks, which have kept him out of matchups against the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants, while also forcing his early exit from two other games. A hamstring issue specifically sidelined him for the team's Week 5 and Week 6 games.
While key players like Jalen Hurts and Lane Johnson remain sidelined, the offense recently welcomed back DeVonta Smith from injury. The potential return of Barkley would provide a crucial lift to an offense that has struggled to establish a consistent running game throughout the year.
Despite their slow start, the Eagles remain in contention within a competitive NFC East division. A victory over Dallas would serve as a vital stepping stone for the team, currently led by Tanner McKee, as they pursue a playoff spot.
As the team prepares for Monday night, the expected return of their star running back offers optimism for a struggling squad looking to turn its season around in front of a national audience.
