The Pittsburgh Steelers secured sole possession of first place in the AFC North with a commanding 27-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium. Entering the matchup tied for the division lead, the Steelers utilized a dominant ground game and a stifling defense to distance themselves from their AFC North rivals.

Pittsburgh controlled the tempo early, rushing for 160 yards by halftime alone and building a 20-6 lead. Running back Jaylen Warren spearheaded the offensive attack, racking up 143 yards on 17 carries, including 102 yards in the first half. The Steelers' rushing performance capitalized on a vulnerable Cleveland run defense that struggled to contain the perimeter.

The Browns faced an uphill battle from the start, marked by a sluggish offensive performance and severe pressure on quarterback Deshaun Watson. Cleveland managed minus-1 yard of total offense in the first quarter and committed fumbles on their opening two possessions. Watson was sacked eight times during the contest, bringing his total to 33 sacks through eight games.

Despite the offensive struggles, Cleveland found a bright spot in tight end Harold Fannin Jr., who hauled in 10 receptions on 12 targets for a career-high 154 receiving yards. Denzel Ward also contributed defensively for the Browns by recording an interception, but the team could not overcome Pittsburgh's physical dominance in the trenches.

The victory moves the Steelers to a 6-2 record as they head into their Week 9 bye, holding a half-game lead over the Cincinnati Bengals. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns dropped to 5-3 on the season ahead of their upcoming matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Rounding out the division, the Baltimore Ravens sit in last place at 4-4 as they navigate injuries to quarterback Lamar Jackson, while the Bengals hold a 5-2 standing.

As the second half of the 2026 NFL season unfolds, the AFC North continues to feature tightly contested competition, with all four teams maintaining a record of .500 or better through Week 8. The Steelers will look to maintain their momentum following the bye week when they face the Bengals in a crucial divisional rematch in Cincinnati during Week 10.
