PlayStation Network Users Report Unauthorized Child Accounts Added to Family Lists

Sony has not yet issued an official statement regarding reports that unauthorized child accounts are appearing on PlayStation Network family management lists.

PlayStation Network users across the United States and internationally have raised concerns over reports that unverified child accounts are being added to their family lists without their permission. Multiple users have taken to social media platforms to report discovering unknown accounts linked to their profiles, alongside notifications regarding unexpected changes to sign-in IDs and email addresses.

The unexpected account additions have sparked discussions regarding potential security vulnerabilities within the platform. Some affected individuals noted that the unauthorized activity occurred despite having two-step verification or passkeys enabled on their accounts, leading to speculation that standard login authentication methods might be bypassed.

However, the exact intrusion methods and the overall scale of the issue remain unconfirmed. Security experts and observers note that official information is limited, and it is still unclear whether these incidents stem from widespread technical vulnerabilities, credential reuse, or separate security exploits.

In addition to the presence of unauthorized accounts, users have voiced frustration over the account management process itself. According to platform guidelines, child accounts cannot be immediately deleted through standard user-facing options on the family management interface once added.

Because standard deletion is restricted, users who discover unfamiliar accounts must contact PlayStation support to request removal. This restriction has led to complaints regarding complex support procedures, which can require identity verification steps.

To address potential risks, users are advised to check their PlayStation 5 settings under the family management menu to verify that no unknown accounts are present. Additionally, checking recent purchase histories, securing registered payment methods, and reviewing account notification settings are recommended while awaiting further updates from Sony.
