PSV Eindhoven dropped its second match of the UEFA Champions League tournament phase after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Club Brugge at the Philips Stadion. Despite controlling stretches of the match and creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Dutch side could not overcome a resilient defensive performance and clinical finishing from the Belgian visitors.

The match started brightly for the hosts, with Sergiño Dest threatening early in the seventh minute through a one-on-one opportunity that was denied by a sharp save from Club Brugge goalkeeper Yann Sommer. However, the visitors struck first in the 25th minute following a corner-kick sequence. Joaquín Seys delivered a cross into the penalty area where Nicolò Tresoldi outjumped his marker to head home his fifth goal of the European campaign.

PSV continued to press for an equalizer and finally broke through in the 54th minute. Lutsharel Geertruida drove down the right flank and sent a low ball across the face of goal. After an initial block by Freddie Potts, midfielder Kodai Sano reacted quickest to drive a right-footed shot past Sommer, with the aid of a deflection off a defender and the left post.

The goal marked Sano's second consecutive game scoring in official competition. At 23 years, one month, and 11 days old, Sano also recorded the second-youngest UEFA Champions League goal by a Japanese player in history, trailing only Shinji Kagawa, who achieved the feat at 22 years, eight months, and six days old.

The momentum was short-lived for the home side. In the 20th minute following the equalizer, Club Brugge caught PSV pushing forward on a quick counterattack. A deep through ball found Carlos Forbs, who raced past the defense and calmly slotted a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Matěj Kovář to restore the lead for the visitors.

PSV threw numbers forward in search of a late equalizer during a tense closing stretch. Dest narrowly missed the target in stoppage time when his curling shot from a tight angle clipped over the crossbar, while substitute Ricardo Pepi and Esmir Bajraktarević tested Sommer without success. Club Brugge successfully managed the remainder of the clock to secure all three points.

With the final whistle, Club Brugge climbed to nine points in the league phase standings, while PSV slipped to four points after four matches. PSV will return to domestic Eredivisie action over the weekend before looking ahead to future European fixtures.
