Real Madrid Defeats AEK Athens 3-2 in Dramatic Champions League Match

Real Madrid secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against AEK Athens during their UEFA Champions League league phase match on Wednesday. The Spanish giants traveled to Greece looking to maintain their perfect record in the European competition under manager José Mourinho.

The hosts surprised the visitors early in the match when Aboubakary Koïta found the back of the net in the 12th minute, assisted by former Real Madrid striker Luka Jović. Real Madrid fought back before halftime, with Jude Bellingham equalizing in the 32nd minute by firing a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner following a cross from Marc Cucurella.

The second half brought intense action and more scoring. Stavros Pilios put AEK Athens back in front in the 75th minute after finishing off a quick counterattack. However, Real Madrid responded quickly once again when Kylian Mbappé scored a close-range right-footed finish in the 78th minute to level the score at 2-2.

As the match entered stoppage time, the visitors completed their comeback. Federico Valverde struck a stunning right-footed effort from outside the box in the 92nd minute to seal the 3-2 victory for Los Blancos. AEK Athens was later reduced to ten men when Koïta received a red card in the 90th minute.

The hard-fought win in Athens keeps Real Madrid in a strong position in the Champions League standings. The team entered the fixture riding a wave of momentum following six consecutive victories, which included a win over Barcelona in El Clásico and prior European triumphs against Inter Milan, Roma, and RB Leipzig.

Despite entering the fixture as clear favorites, Real Madrid faced a challenging atmosphere against a Greek side that boasted an impressive home record this season. With the dramatic three points secured in Greece, Mourinho's squad moves closer to direct qualification for the knockout stages.
