Maya Jama hit back at viewer criticism regarding her gameplay on The Celebrity Traitors following the latest elimination.
Television host Maya Jama has defended her conduct on The Celebrity Traitors after facing sharp criticism from viewers over a recent episode of the hit reality program. Jama, who was selected as a Traitor on the first day alongside Richard E. Grant, has continued navigating the strategic game alongside comedian James Acaster and content creator King Kenny.
During a recent episode, the trio of Traitors faced the challenge of eliminating a Faithful in plain sight by forcing them to yawn. The task led to theatrical yawning from the contestants until former news anchor Ross Kemp fell victim to the plot and was eliminated from the competition.
Following the broadcast, one viewer took to social media to criticize Jama, accusing her of being harsh toward Acaster while performing unconvincing fake yawns. The user argued that Jama failed to capitalize on her position while fellow contestants played stronger games.
Jama quickly fired back at the online criticism through a post on X before later deleting it. She stated that it was interesting to observe viewer reactions and emphasized that both she and Acaster participated in the required task equally.
“I wasn’t a cow at all and I may delete this later but it’s been so interesting watching the takes of some accounts on here when if it was the other way round I would be called all sorts as I already am in this thread,” Jama wrote, adding that they both yawned and that Acaster simply completed the verbal requirement first.
Several other viewers supported the television host, dismissing the initial critical post as an unfair assessment. The discussion unfolded alongside further dramatic exits in the competition, including the banishment of former model Jerry Hall, who expressed gratitude for her time on the show after being voted out by her co-stars.
Reflecting on her departure, Hall remarked that she had deeply enjoyed her time on the program and laughed more than she had in years, while confirming to her fellow players that she had remained a Faithful throughout her run.
