Former German national football goalkeeper Eike Immel was expelled from the reality television show "Das große Promi-Büßen," broadcast on Joyn, following a series of controversial statements and actions. During the program's confrontational segment known as the "Round of Shame," host Olivia Jones confronted the 65-year-old participant about his past behavior, leading to immediate production consequences.

During the intense exchange, Immel admitted to owing money to the late World Cup champion Andreas Brehme, stating, "I will make that right." However, tensions escalated when the conversation shifted to previous verbal misconduct from another show, where the former athlete had boasted about befriending a man solely to pursue his wife, accompanying the admission with a harsh insult directed at the woman.

Although Immel initially conceded that his past actions were unacceptable and admitted to feeling ashamed, further revelations quickly unraveled his defense. After the host left the room, Immel repeated the derogatory remarks about the woman. Production footage subsequently captured him complaining about progressive attitudes and dismissing discriminatory language.

The situation worsened when footage showed Immel using a racial slur in reference to a piece of candy and defending his use of derogatory terminology. Additionally, the show's production uncovered footage of Immel singing the first stanza of the Deutschlandlied while traveling to the camp. While the song is not legally banned, the specific stanza was historically associated with nationalistic superiority under the Nazi regime.

Confronted with the accumulation of offensive remarks, host Olivia Jones announced the decision to remove him from the premises by the third episode of the season. Jones stated, "Eike, we would have liked to see more of you, but not like this. You have to leave the camp right now!"

Following his expulsion, Immel accepted the decision and offered an apology while maintaining his innocence regarding the broader accusations. "I am neither a Nazi nor a misogynist nor anything else," he stated, describing the events that transpired during production as a total mistake.

Fellow participant Georgina Fleur commented on the atmosphere within the camp and noted that Immel crossed a definitive line during and after his appearance in the segment. The controversial departure highlights ongoing scrutiny surrounding the conduct of public figures participating in reality television formats.
