Recent Traffic Collisions and Accidents Leave One Dead and Several Injured in Germany
A series of separate traffic accidents involving a car, a vehicle collision at an intersection, and an electric scooter crash resulted in fatalities and serious injuries.
A series of serious traffic accidents across different regions resulted in one fatality, multiple injuries, and a teenager fighting for his life, according to local authorities.
In the East Holstein district, a 37-year-old driver lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning. Police reported that the man from Lübeck was traveling on county road K1 toward Sieversdorf around 1:00 AM when his car veered off the road for unknown reasons in a curve and collided with two trees.
Emergency services, including rescue workers, a doctor, police, and local volunteer fire departments, responded to the scene. The Lübeck public prosecutor's office ordered an expert accident investigator to determine the exact cause of the crash. County road K1 was temporarily closed and fully reopened by approximately 5:30 AM, with the vehicle sustaining a total loss estimated at around 10,000 euros.
In a separate incident in Furth im Wald, a collision at an intersection left three people injured. A Czech citizen driving a Ford Mondeo exited the B20 highway at the Furth-Mitte interchange around 12:40 PM. While attempting to turn onto Kötztinger Straße toward the city center, he failed to yield the right-of-way and struck a Suzuki Across pulling a trailer.
The impact completely tore apart half of the Mondeo's engine compartment, while the Suzuki and its trailer ended up in a roadside ditch. An off-duty mountain rescue worker happened to pass by and provided first aid until emergency medical teams and firefighters arrived. A rescue helicopter transported the moderately injured driver of the Suzuki to a hospital, where rescue service director Tobias Muhr confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening.
The collision, combined with an ongoing closure of the Chamb Tunnel, caused significant traffic congestion throughout the city center and the Vogelherdsiedlsulfanyl residential area.
Meanwhile, in Berghaupten near Offenburg, a 15-year-old boy is in critical condition following a severe electric scooter crash on Thursday evening. The teenager and a 17-year-old companion were riding together on a single e-scooter heading toward Talstraße on a steeply sloping section of Klingelhalde street.
For reasons still under investigation, the pair lost control of the scooter around 6:45 PM and suffered a heavy fall. The 15-year-old driver was thrown into nearby bushes and sustained life-threatening injuries. His 17-year-old passenger escaped with minor injuries, and both were transported to a nearby hospital.
The Offenburg traffic police have seized the e-scooter for investigation and stated that, so far, there are no indications of involvement by other motorists or any technical tampering or defects with the vehicle.
