Scottie Barnes Scores Zero Points in Raptors Loss to Timberwolves
The Toronto Raptors forward endured a difficult night on the court, failing to score during a road defeat against Minnesota.
Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes experienced a historically difficult outing on Sunday night, failing to score a single point during his team's 117-94 defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves. With teammate Kawhi Leonard sidelined due to a knee injury, Barnes stepped into the role of primary offensive option but struggled mightily against a resilient Minnesota defense.
During 27 minutes of floor time, Barnes missed all 12 of his field goal attempts, including five misses from beyond the arc. He also failed to record a single point from the free-throw line, capping off what head coach Darko Rajakovic and analysts noted as the toughest performance of his professional NBA career.
The scoreless night marked a sudden and sharp departure from Barnes's strong start to the season. In his previous outings, the forward had posted consecutive performances exceeding 20 points, which included a notable double-double featuring 28 points and 14 rebounds against Washington.
Speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Rajakovic defended his star player's shot selection despite the zero-point stat line. Rajakovic stated that the Timberwolves did not implement any extraordinary defensive schemes to disrupt Barnes, attributing the poor performance simply to missed looks.
"I don't think they did anything, to be honest with you, that they got him off the game. He just missed his shots. All the shots that he took in the game, I thought they were good shots. This is not going to happen again to Scottie. Scottie is going to make those shots next time," Rajakovic told reporters.
The lopsided loss dropped the Toronto Raptors to a 2-1 record in the early stages of the regular season. The team was outpaced on the road, with Anthony Edwards leading the Timberwolves with 26 points, while Ja'Kobe Walter paced Toronto with 22 points.
Despite the disappointing result, observers expect Barnes to bounce back quickly given his established status as one of the league's elite talents. The Raptors will look to put the difficult loss behind them as they prepare to face the Orlando Magic.
