Sports Highlights: Bahia, Botafogo, and Internacional Finalists in Social Campaign
Bahia, Botafogo, and Internacional compete for an award recognizing efforts against gender-based violence, while other sporting news covers trial updates and team pressures.
The finalists for the TV Brasil Petrobras Para Elas Award were revealed, highlighting initiatives by top-flight clubs aimed at combating harassment and gender-based violence. The Bahia, Botafogo, and Internacional clubs reached the final stage of the category dedicated to women's football against femicide. The winner will be announced during a ceremony at the Football Museum in São Paulo on November 15.
The initiative addresses alarming statistics in the country regarding gender-related crimes. A recent study by the Brazilian Public Security Forum indicated that thousands of women were killed in gender-related crimes, underscoring the urgency of awareness campaigns across sports organizations. The finalists were selected through voting by an exclusively female jury comprising journalists, communicators, and gender equality professionals.
Throughout the season, the nominated clubs implemented various outreach and protective actions. Bahia joined the Zero Femicide campaign and introduced awareness projects during matches, incorporating mobile support units outside stadiums. Botafogo maintained its "Hora Delas" project at the Nilton Santos Stadium, establishing a dedicated post for reporting gender violence in coordination with local authorities. Meanwhile, Internacional engaged fans through visual installations like the "Red Bench" and hosted educational seminars on the subject.
In other domestic soccer news, the Superior Tribunal of Sports Justice scheduled a plenary judgment regarding an appeal filed by Santos. The club seeks to overturn a suspension imposed on its playmaker following an expulsion during a match against Bahia. The upcoming session will review arguments from the club regarding the two-game ban administered by the disciplinary commission.
Meanwhile, the Botafogo men's team faces intense pressure heading into its fixture against Atlético-MG. Positioned closely above the relegation zone, the squad has managed few victories in its recent outings under coach Tite. Discontent prompted fan groups to visit the club's training center to voice concerns to leadership and players regarding the recent performance decline.
In international club competition, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick praised forward Raphinha ahead of the team's Champions League fixture against Aston Villa. The German coach highlighted the Brazilian player's consistent form and adaptation to the tactical system. At the same time, Flick addressed defensive challenges due to multiple injuries within the squad, expressing hope for player recoveries following the upcoming international break.
