Steam Experiences Global Outage Affecting User Libraries
Players around the world reported issues accessing their game libraries and logging into the platform on October 26.
Steam users worldwide experienced significant disruptions on the morning of October 26, as many players found themselves unable to access their game libraries or open the application properly. Instead of reaching their usual dashboard, affected users reported becoming stuck on a loading screen featuring an endlessly spinning wheel and the message "Loading user data…".
The outage began early in the morning, with tracking metrics on DownDetector showing a sharp spike in complaints starting around 6:00 a.m. and peaking at nearly 1,134 reports by 9:55 a.m. Approximately 74 percent of the reported problems centered around login difficulties. Players from multiple countries, including the United States, Japan, Poland, and Indonesia, took to online forums to report identical issues across both personal computers and the Steam Deck.
While some community members noted that the Steam storefront and community pages remained partially functional, the inability to enter the library caused considerable frustration. Several users who purchased games during the outage expressed anxiety over whether their transactions went through properly, as they could not view their newly acquired titles. Others encountered the glitch after downloading a new game or getting disconnected while playing active titles such as Deadlock.
Valve Corporation has not yet released an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption, and the official Steam account on social media platforms remained silent on the matter as reports mounted. Other digital storefronts, such as the Epic Store, continued to operate without interruption during the incident.
Players attempted various troubleshooting methods to bypass the loading screen, ranging from basic application restarts and running Steam as an administrator to resetting network connections. While some users found temporary success by disconnecting and reconnecting their Wi-Fi networks, these solutions did not work universally, and standard procedures like reinstalling the software failed to resolve the problem for many.
As the technical issues persisted, the gaming community awaited further updates from Valve regarding the underlying cause of the outage and an estimated timeframe for a full system restoration.
