University of Buenos Aires to Host Charity Gala Featuring Signed Sports Memorabilia

The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) announced that it will host its inaugural charity event, "La Noche de la UBA," on November 12 at the university's Faculty of Law. The benefit gala aims to raise funds to equip the José de San Martín Hospital de Clínicas with an advanced robotic surgical platform designed for high-complexity, minimally invasive procedures.

The fundraising effort features donations of signed memorabilia and athletic gear from top-tier Argentine sports stars. Among the items slated for the live auction are jerseys from FIFA World Cup champions Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, and Cristian "Cuti" Romero, as well as match-worn gloves from goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez.

Basketball is also well represented in the collection with items from Golden Generation members and Olympic champions Manu Ginóbili and Fabricio Oberto. Additionally, Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto contributed a signed cap, and various items from historic and current squads from River Plate and Boca Juniors were donated to the cause.

Organizers noted that the targeted robotic platform will allow for greater precision in complex medical procedures, reduce patient recovery times, and lower complication rates. Furthermore, the technology will serve to train medical professionals who work across both public and private healthcare sectors throughout the country.

The Hospital de Clínicas handles more than 365,000 medical consultations annually, performs over 8,000 surgeries, and trains upwards of 1,500 healthcare professionals each year. University officials emphasize that these figures highlight the urgent need for modernized infrastructure and diversified funding sources beyond standard state budgets and private donations.

Members of the public who wish to contribute without attending the live auction can participate through direct financial donations of any amount or by purchasing corporate sponsorships. Tickets for the November 12 event at the Faculty of Law are also available for purchase through links provided by the university as it launches what it hopes to establish as an annual tradition.
