University of Utah Football Player Jamal Wallace Suspended Following Arrest
The senior defensive tackle faces misdemeanor counts for distributing intimate images after an arrest on Oct. 11.
University of Utah senior defensive tackle Jamal Wallace has been suspended indefinitely from the football program following his arrest earlier this month. Salt Lake City police arrested the athlete on Oct. 11 after a woman accused him of recording and sharing explicit videos without her consent.
Wallace currently faces five misdemeanor counts for the distribution of an intimate image. While he was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on these charges, investigators noted that sexual assault allegations involving the same incident remain under active investigation.
According to a probable cause statement and arrest records, the woman described Wallace as an off-and-on dating partner. The two had met on Oct. 9 to talk about their relationship when the situation escalated. The woman reported that Wallace forced her to engage in sex acts and used her cell phone to record encounters without her knowledge.
Investigators stated that Wallace used the victim's Snapchat account to send the recorded videos to five different individuals. When the woman discovered that the media had been shared, she reported feeling confused and distressed, subsequently undergoing a sexual assault examination.
During an interview with the Salt Lake City Police Department, Wallace denied committing any sexual assault. He told officers that he had only accessed the victim's social media account to check with whom she had been communicating, adding that he became upset upon seeing messages from other men.
Law enforcement officers inspecting the victim's phone located two sexually explicit videos involving Wallace and the victim. Records also showed that Wallace had used the device during the altercation to reply to other men messaging the victim.
Following his arrest, Wallace was released on Oct. 12 after posting a $5,000 bond. His release is subject to multiple court-ordered conditions, including daily automated phone check-ins, monitoring for new charges, and regular pre-trial meetings.
University of Utah athletics officials released a statement regarding the ongoing situation. "We were made aware of the situation with Jamal Wallace on Oct. 11 and he was immediately placed on an indefinite suspension from the program," school officials stated. "We take these matters seriously. As this is a pending legal matter we have no further comment at this time."
Wallace joined the Utah football program in January ahead of the 2026 season following a transfer from the University of Tennessee, where he played two seasons and took a redshirt year due to injuries. He has appeared in only one game for the Utes this season.
