The federal government of Argentina has formalized a special schedule of rest days in November 2026 to accommodate the historic pastoral visit of Pope Leo XIV. According to Decree 1103/2026 published in the Official Gazette, authorities established a system featuring one national holiday and two regional non-working days designed to handle transit, security, and logistical operations during the pontiff's itinerary.

Monday, November 9, 2026, will be observed as a national holiday across the entire territory of Argentina, serving as the central day of the papal tour. On this day, Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to celebrate a large mass in Buenos Aires frente al Monumento a los Españoles in Palermo, following earlier stops at a charitable center in Claypole. His itinerary also includes meetings with President Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada, religious leaders at San Martín Palace, and a youth vigil.

The special schedule continues with regional measures on Tuesday, November 10, which will be a holiday exclusively within the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the Province of Córdoba. On Wednesday, November 11, the final day of the tour, the holiday will apply solely to the Province of Buenos Aires, culminating in a mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján before the pontiff departs for Lima, Peru.

The extensive movement of crowds during the papal visit has also prompted an exceptional schedule for the country's financial sector. The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) announced that banking institutions will experience five consecutive days without in-person customer service during the second week of November. Branches will remain closed on Friday, November 6, for Bank Worker's Day, followed by the standard weekend, and subsequently on Monday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 10, due to the papal holidays.

Financial authorities clarified that despite the physical branch closures, digital banking services will remain operational. Customers will still be able to utilize automated teller machines, electronic wallets, home banking applications, and online platforms to perform transfers, pay utility bills, and check account balances. However, the BCRA advised citizens to anticipate urgent paperwork, document submissions, and large cash withdrawals prior to Thursday, November 5, to avoid processing delays.

To coordinate the complex logistics of the papal journey, the national administration created a temporary special executive unit housed within the Chief of Cabinet's Office. Additionally, local authorities arranged for free public transportation passes on the Sube network for individuals participating in the scheduled events, while the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires has mobilized thousands of volunteers to assist with event operations.

Beyond the papal visit, the official calendar for the remainder of November includes the National Sovereignty Day holiday, which has been shifted from Friday, November 20, to Monday, November 23. December will feature a non-working day for tourism on Monday, December 7, followed by the immovable holidays of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and Christmas Day on December 25.
