Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was rushed to a hospital in Munich on Friday after collapsing while watching a club training session. A medical helicopter landed at the Säbener Straße training facility, and emergency medical personnel assisted the 40-year-old coach before he was transported for further medical evaluation.

Reports regarding the exact nature and immediate circumstances of his transport varied slightly among outlets, with some indicating he was taken by ambulance after fainting during the under-23 training session, while local media highlighted the deployment of the emergency helicopter. Sky reported that Kompany's condition was stable, though official confirmation from the German club remained pending.

The health issues facing the Belgian coach first became apparent the previous Saturday during Bayern Munich's 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig. Although Kompany delivered the pre-match and post-match talks to his players, the illness forced him to lie down on a sofa in the Allianz Arena dressing room during both halftime and after the final whistle. Following a brief recovery at the end of the match, he continued reviewing plays on his laptop while club sporting officials handled post-match media duties.

According to German media reports, the viral infection caused complications in an area involving old scar tissue, creating difficulties for the manager with physical actions such as climbing stairs. Consequently, Kompany missed training sessions on Monday and Tuesday to undergo extensive medical examinations led by the team's internist, Professor Roland Schmidt.

The illness also kept the head coach away from media obligations ahead of Bayern Munich's UEFA Champions League fixture against Arsenal. Assistant coach Aaron Danks stepped in to handle the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, emphasizing that the primary objective was ensuring Kompany received adequate rest.

Despite missing the early-week training sessions, Kompany returned to the touchline on Wednesday to coach the squad during a 2-2 draw against Arsenal. Speaking to reporters after the match, the manager acknowledged that he had ignored early warning signs from his body while trying to manage his responsibilities.

"As a coach, you always want to do everything and achieve everything," Kompany stated following the Arsenal match. "Last week I contracted a pretty nasty virus and, of course, I didn't listen to my body. There came a point when my body told me: 'Stop it now!"'

Kompany has managed Bayern Munich since 2024. As the club awaits further updates from medical professionals, the priority remains the recovery and well-being of the 40-year-old manager.
