Catherine Zeta-Jones Stars in New TV Thriller and Reflects on Romance
The acclaimed actress leads the revenge series "Kill Jackie" while her husband, Michael Douglas, shares details about the early days of their relationship in a new memoir.
Academy Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is currently starring in the new revenge thriller series "Kill Jackie," which recently premiered in the United States and is set to arrive in Mexico on the Universal+ platform. Consisting of eight episodes, the show is an adaptation of the novel "The Price You Pay" by Nick Harkaway.
In the series, Zeta-Jones portrays Jackie Price, a woman who has spent the last two decades living a life of luxury and international travel. Her past as a drug trafficker eventually catches up with her, however, when she learns that a group of hitmen has been hired to eliminate her. The production also features a supporting cast that includes Daniel Ings, Óscar Jaenada, and Ron Perlman.
Aside from her television projects, Zeta-Jones and her long-time marriage to actor Michael Douglas have drawn renewed public attention following the release of Douglas's memoir, "One Helluva Ride." During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Douglas opened up about the beginning of their romance, revealing that he had to end relationships with five other women when he began courting her.
The couple first met in August 1998 at the Deauville American Film Festival, where Douglas was promoting his project "A Perfect Murder." After seeing Zeta-Jones in "The Mask of Zorro," Douglas famously told her that he would be the father of her children, though the actress was initially unimpressed and told him it was time for her to say goodnight.
Reflecting on that period, Douglas admitted that he was seeing multiple people while going through a divorce from his first wife, Diandra Luker. When Zeta-Jones made it clear that he needed to clean up his act if they were to pursue a relationship, Douglas had to make phone calls to five women to break things off.
Despite Douglas's upfront advance, Zeta-Jones kept him at a distance initially, ensuring there was no physical relationship for the first nine months of knowing each other. She frequently ended their early dates early and had her father or brother pick her up. Douglas eventually realized she wanted to take things slow, writing in his memoir that she wanted to maintain control.
The turning point came after a boxing match when Zeta-Jones sent Douglas a note stating, "You had me at round one." The couple married in November 2000 and share two children, Dylan and Carys, maintaining one of Hollywood's most enduring relationships.
