Intoxicated Motorists Stopped in Separate Incidents Across Europe
Recent police interventions involved a severely intoxicated mother driving with her child, a man tracked down after erratic driving, and an accident caused by drunk driving.
Law enforcement agencies recently intercepted multiple drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol in a series of alarming weekend traffic incidents.
In the Bernkastel-Wittlich district, a 31-year-old mother was stopped by police on a remote forest path after driving erratically in a weaving pattern on Sunday afternoon. Witnesses had spotted her dangerous driving and followed the vehicle before alerting authorities. A subsequent breathalyzer test administered during a traffic stop revealed an astonishing blood alcohol concentration of 3.15 promille.
The woman's six-year-old child, who was inside the car during the ordeal, was safely transferred into the care of the child's father following the incident. While officers were documenting the event, the suspect became aggressive and physically lashed out at a witness who remained at the scene. Authorities have confiscated her driver's license indefinitely and initiated multiple criminal proceedings against her.
In a separate traffic case in the Rohrbach district, a 24-year-old man was tracked down at his residence after reports surfaced of his erratic driving along the L584 road toward Lembach. Although the registered vehicle owner initially denied being behind the wheel, his 18-year-old girlfriend confessed to police that she had persuaded him to switch seats with her while the car was still in motion.
Police subsequently filed formal reports against the driver and provisionally revoked his driver's license. Meanwhile, in Hahnbach, a 53-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle at a highway intersection, veered off the road into a field, and struck a guidepost on Sunday evening.
The motorist managed to escape the vehicle unharmed before it completely caught fire and suffered total destruction valued at approximately 12,000 euros. Responding firefighters from Hahnbach and Gebenbach quickly extinguished the blaze, while emergency medical personnel examined the driver as a precaution.
A breathalyzer test administered during the accident investigation indicated that the driver had a blood alcohol level approaching one promille. Law enforcement ordered a mandatory blood draw and launched formal investigations against him for suspected endangerment of road traffic due to alcohol consumption alongside related offenses.
In an unrelated transit arrest in Germany, federal police at the Essen central station detained a 49-year-old homeless man during a routine check. Officers discovered that he was the subject of an active warrant following a prior conviction for robbery and theft, with authorities noting he registered a blood alcohol reading of 2.9 promille at the time of his apprehension.
