Oklahoma City is currently serving as a major hub for both Hollywood cinema and professional sports. Downtown OKC transformed into a movie set recently as high-profile actors and filmmakers gathered to shoot multiple feature-length projects throughout the area.

Movie star Jason Momoa and Tulsa-born director John Swab were spotted filming scenes for the upcoming crime thriller 'Copperhead' in downtown Oklahoma City. Production on the project involved street closures, camera cranes, and a large cast that includes Miles Teller, Tenoch Huerta, Adria Arjona, and Kiefer Sutherland.

Financed and produced by Black Label Media alongside Lime Tree Productions and Milk Boy, 'Copperhead' has pre-qualified for the state film incentive and the local film incentive program. The production budget is estimated at $39.7 million and is projected to generate significant local expenditures and community economic impact.

The crime thriller is just one of several projects keeping the local film industry busy this fall. Other productions currently underway in the OKC metropolitan area include the road trip comedy 'Pipe Cleaner Boy' starring Abigail Breslin, the faith-based film 'His Heart' featuring Kelsey Grammer, and the psychological thriller 'To Make the World Quiet' directed by Laron Chapman.

In the sports arena, the Oklahoma City Thunder have also captured attention by opening the 2026-27 NBA season with a commanding victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Playing at full strength, the Thunder showcased their depth and silenced critics in a matchup that highlighted the team's capabilities.

Reigning back-to-back MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 32 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Meanwhile, teammate Chet Holmgren delivered a stellar defensive performance by limiting San Antonio's star center to just 12 points on tough shooting, while Spanish center Aday Mara impressed fans with strong defensive stops and athletic play in limited minutes.

Beyond the current season, the Thunder's future roster management also looks promising. The team is projected to hold three first-round selections in a future NBA mock draft, positioning general manager Sam Presti to add more young talent on affordable contracts as the current payroll evolves.
