Oklahoma City Thunder Sign Micah Peavy to Two-Way Contract
The forward joins the Thunder roster following his release from the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward Micah Peavy to a two-way contract, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. The move comes as the Thunder look to bolster their roster depth early in the 2026-27 NBA season, filling a vacancy created by the expected departure of rookie Otega Oweh.
Peavy, a 25-year-old wing, was originally selected with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Georgetown. He spent his rookie season with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he appeared in 61 regular-season games and averaged 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in approximately 15 minutes per contest. Following his tenure in New Orleans, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in September 2026 before being waived by the team on October 19.
The acquisition of Peavy provides the Thunder with additional wing depth, a position where the team has sought more versatility. Standing at 6-foot-7, Peavy is recognized for his defensive capabilities and athleticism. Throughout his collegiate career, which included stops at Texas Tech, TCU, and Georgetown, he demonstrated a well-rounded skill set, notably averaging 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game during his final season with the Hoyas.
The roster spot occupied by Peavy was previously held by Otega Oweh, who suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon during the preseason. Oweh, the 41st overall pick in the 2026 draft, is expected to miss the entire 2026-27 season while rehabbing the injury. While the Thunder have not officially finalized the release of Oweh, reports indicate the team plans to part ways with the rookie to prioritize a healthy player for their third two-way roster slot.
Peavy joins Brooks Barnhizer and Josh Dix as the team’s current two-way players. These contracts allow the athletes to split their time between the NBA roster and the Oklahoma City Blue, the organization's G League affiliate. This arrangement provides the Thunder with flexibility to develop younger talent while maintaining depth for the main rotation as the season progresses.
The Thunder, currently undefeated with a 2-0 record following victories over the San Antonio Spurs and the Denver Nuggets, are looking to integrate Peavy into their system quickly. The team is scheduled to return to the court on Sunday, October 25, to host the Los Angeles Clippers at the Paycom Center. Peavy’s addition is expected to provide the coaching staff with more options as they navigate the challenges of a long regular season.
