Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 Surpasses Rs 500 Crore Worldwide at Box Office
The action thriller directed by Nelson Dilipkumar continues its strong theatrical run, rapidly climbing the ranks of highest-grossing Indian films.
Rajinikanth's action extravaganza Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally within its first week, maintaining robust momentum following a festive boost from Dussehra and Navratri holidays. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and backed by Sun Pictures, the sequel has defied traditional weekday slowdowns, showing exceptional holding power at box office counters across India and overseas.
Trade reports indicate that the film achieved a domestic net collection of around Rs 287.80 to Rs 289.05 crore by its sixth day, supported by strong urban occupancies in metropolitan hubs like Chennai and Bengaluru. The film's worldwide gross figures range between Rs 541 crore and Rs 542.45 crore, according to various trade trackers, making it one of the fastest Tamil films to enter the Rs 500 crore global club.
The movie opened to a massive Rs 59.70 crore on Thursday, and despite a predictable weekday dip, it rebounded sharply with strong collections during the holiday stretch. On Tuesday alone, the film collected approximately Rs 45.55 crore net in India across more than 15,000 shows. Advance bookings for Wednesday further demonstrated the film's resilience, generating significant pre-sales and pushing the feature to the brink of the Rs 300 crore domestic net milestone.
Internationally, Jailer 2 has performed exceptionally well, pulling in strong overseas gross numbers that contribute significantly to its global tally. Analysts note that the film has quickly surpassed the lifetime collections of several major 2026 releases, positioning itself as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year thus far behind titles like Dhurandhar The Revenge and Drishyam 3.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar expressed gratitude to audiences on social media, writing that theatres are going wild and thanking viewers for the phenomenal reception. The filmmaker shared his appreciation alongside the cast and crew as fans celebrated the cinematic return of Rajinikanth's character, 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian.
The sequel picks up the narrative after the explosive events of the 2023 original, following Muthu as he attempts to live quietly while confronting a new wave of threats from a shadowy smuggling cartel and vengeful kingpins. Alongside Rajinikanth, the film features an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, S.J. Suryah, and Vidya Balan, alongside prominent cameo appearances.
As Jailer 2 progresses through its first week, industry analysts expect its strong holdover stamina to continue driving ticket sales. With steady multiplex occupancy and high pre-sales figures for working days, the feature continues to solidify its legacy within the franchise and bolster modern box office records.
