Reports cover an electrical incident at LAX, military actions in Syria, and protests in Montana.

A series of distinct events have drawn attention across different sectors, ranging from infrastructure concerns in Los Angeles to international military escalations and local community protests in Montana.

In California, exclusive video footage has surfaced showing a significant electrical arc flash during a test of the new Automated People Mover at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The footage, captured late last month, depicts a blast followed by sparks and smoke near the station platform. Light-rail expert Timothy Borchers, who reviewed the recording, described the event as one of the most severe flashovers he has witnessed, warning that such incidents could lead to catastrophic electrical failures if not properly mitigated.

The LAX project has faced numerous challenges, including being years behind schedule and exceeding its budget by over a billion dollars. While Los Angeles World Airports stated that arc flashes are not uncommon during the testing phase and noted that no passengers were on board, the contractor, LINXS, emphasized that the system performed as designed and that testing has resumed.

Internationally, Jordan launched air strikes in Syria following a deadly attack on a church in the Karak governorate last Friday. Jordanian officials stated the strikes targeted armed groups responsible for the shooting, which resulted in at least nine deaths. While the Jordanian military claimed the operation was coordinated with the Syrian government, Syrian officials denied any prior notification or cooperation, labeling the strikes a treacherous attack.

The air strikes reportedly killed at least seven people, including three children and a woman, according to the Syrian Civil Defence service. In response to the military action, Syria closed the Nassib border crossing, which serves as the primary route for commercial and passenger traffic between the two nations. Jordanian authorities have also made arrests in connection with the initial church attack following a confrontation with suspects.

In Billings, Montana, hundreds of community members gathered at Billings Senior High School and in the downtown area to demand increased safety measures. The protests were organized after officials opted not to file felony charges against a student involved in the stabbing of a teacher earlier this January. The demonstrations highlighted ongoing concerns regarding school safety and the legal response to violence within the educational system.
