Two young men, aged 20 and 21, were found dead on Thursday inside a rental property in Dourlers, located in the Nord department of France. Emergency services were alerted around 1:00 PM by a 16-year-old girl who discovered the bodies upon waking up after spending the previous evening with them at the location.

According to a statement released by Avesnes-sur-Helpe Prosecutor Laurent Dumaine, numerous regulated medications were recovered from the scene. While preliminary examinations by the medical examiner ruled out the direct intervention of a third party in the deaths, authorities noted that the findings remain entirely compatible with the ingestion of toxic substances.

Following the initial inquiry into the causes of the mortality, the investigation has now shifted toward the classification of involuntary manslaughter. Sources close to the inquiry indicated that methadone, a synthetic opioid, was among the pharmaceutical products identified inside the luxury vacation home, which features a swimming pool and a jacuzzi and can accommodate more than a dozen guests.

The lone surviving companion, described as being in a severe state of shock, was promptly hospitalized following the discovery on Thursday. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews to piece together the events of the evening.

Additional investigative procedures, including comprehensive autopsies, are currently underway to determine the exact sequence of events and clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Officials emphasized that extensive forensic work remains necessary to conclude the inquiry.

The local prosecutor's office continues to oversee the ongoing police investigation as authorities await the final toxicology and autopsy results to confirm whether an accidental overdose was the definitive cause of the tragedy.
