Vitoria de Guimaraes secured a resounding 4-0 victory against Maritimo on Friday in the opening match of the ninth round of the Portuguese I Liga, moving further away from the lower section of the standings. Playing at the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques, the home side broke a five-game winless run in the league and distanced themselves from the danger zone.

The match began with a tense atmosphere, reflecting the psychological pressure on both squads after extended winless runs. Early on, both teams struggled with erratic passing and a cautious tactical setup. However, the deadlock broke in the 38th minute when Jakupovic scored from a direct free kick, relieving the tension for the hosts and providing much-needed momentum.

The strategy implemented by coach Tiago Margarido began to take full effect as the first half concluded, utilizing strong midfield pressure and wide areas to exploit the sudden positional disarray of the visiting team. Maritimo entered the match winless in their previous six league fixtures and struggled to mount any meaningful response.

The structural collapse of the visitors deepened immediately after halftime. In the 48th minute, Paulo Henrique accidentally put the ball into his own net, compounding the defensive woes for the Madeira-based squad. From that moment forward, Maritimo lacked the defensive aggressiveness needed in duels, allowing Vitoria to comfortably dictate the tempo of the match.

Building on their advantage, Vitoria capitalized on quick vertical transitions. Gustavo Silva delivered a precise pass to Oumar Camara, who scored the team's third goal in the 60th minute. With the opposition completely unable to organize a counterattack, the home side managed their physical efforts while maintaining continuous offensive pressure.

As the game neared its conclusion, Jakupovic secured his second goal of the night by taking advantage of defensive passivity. In the final moments of regulation time, young substitute Yeimar Mosquera capped off the scoring in the 90th minute following a corner kick taken by Alanzinho, cementing a comprehensive offensive performance.

With this dominant result, Vitoria de Guimaraes climbed to 11th place in the league table with eight points, recovering valuable confidence. Meanwhile, Maritimo dropped to 13th place with the same number of points, extending their winless run in the competition to seven consecutive matches as they sink deeper into a difficult position in the standings.
