Why Keke Palmer Fired Stylist Law Roach Over Hidden Pregnancy
Celebrity stylist Law Roach explained that his desire to showcase Keke Palmer's pregnancy led to her decision to end their professional relationship.
Renowned celebrity stylist Law Roach recently shared the details behind why actress and entertainer Keke Palmer fired him during her pregnancy. Speaking on an episode of the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, Roach explained that the professional split occurred because he wanted to style her developing baby bump while she was still actively trying to keep her pregnancy private.
Roach admitted that he struggled with the assignment, noting that he could not get the looks or the energy right while attempting to conceal her changing figure. At the same time, he acknowledged being excited by the fashion possibilities that came with a pregnancy reveal, creating a conflict between his creative ambitions and his client's need for privacy.
During their disagreement, Palmer delivered a blunt assessment of their working dynamic. According to Roach, she told him, 'You may be the best stylist in the world, but you are not the best stylist for me.' Roach recalled responding simply, 'Well, all right, Keke Palmer.' Despite the dismissal, Roach has expressed admiration for Palmer's choice, viewing it as a sound business decision rather than a personal falling out.
The timing of the disagreement predates Palmer's public pregnancy announcement, which she made while hosting Saturday Night Live on December 3, 2022. During her opening monologue, she addressed ongoing public speculation before unbuttoning her jacket to reveal her baby bump to the audience. Following the broadcast, she welcomed her son, Leodis Andrellton Jackson, with her then-partner Darius Jackson in February 2023.
After parting ways with Roach, Palmer worked with other stylists, including Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald, who initially helped conceal her bump before shifting direction after her television announcement. Her subsequent maternity fashion included high-profile appearances featuring cutouts that proudly displayed her pregnancy, such as a sequined Michael Kors dress worn at the 2023 New York Film Critics Circle Awards.
Despite the friction during her pregnancy, Palmer and Roach have maintained an amicable relationship and have openly discussed the firing on multiple occasions. In October 2024, Palmer appeared alongside Roach at a promotional panel for his book, How to Build a Fashion Icon, where she joked about his personality by saying, 'Law lives for a drag.' They revisited the topic again on an episode of Palmer's podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, titled Boundaries, Break Ups, and Comebacks with Law Roach.
