Actor Dermot Mulroney has returned to production for the upcoming sequel to the 2005 holiday hit The Family Stone, joining original cast members in New York. The new film, titled The Families Stone, reunites key members of the original ensemble more than two decades after the release of the first movie.

Filming began in late October in Brooklyn, New York. Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original fan-favorite holiday feature, has returned to write and direct the new project. Returning cast members spotted on set alongside Mulroney include Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes, and Luke Wilson.

The new storyline is set to take place two decades after the death of the beloved Stone family matriarch, Sybil Stone, who was originally played by the late Diane Keaton. In the sequel, the family gathers once again for the Christmas holidays, only to discover that their father, played by Craig T. Nelson, has fallen in love with another woman and invited her to join them.

In addition to his return to the romantic comedy franchise, Mulroney is also featured in the upcoming horror film Dead of Night, distributed by Level 33 Entertainment. Directed by Derek Sulek, who co-wrote the screenplay with Erick Durham, the movie follows a community thrown into terror after a teenage girl is murdered.

In Dead of Night, Mulroney portrays Sheriff Weaver, an official racing against time to identify the killer as the town descends into paranoia. The serial killer thriller is scheduled to slash into theaters on November 13th before becoming available On Demand on January 12th, 2027.

Mulroney is no stranger to the thriller genre, having recently hunted a killer on screen in Scream VI. His upcoming cinematic releases highlight a busy period for the actor across both comedic and dark dramatic roles.
