Grand Theft Auto VI Could Demand 210 GB of Console Storage Space
Database listings indicate players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox will need to clear drive space ahead of November.
Video game players preparing for the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI may need to clear substantial room on their hardware, as database records indicate the title could require approximately 210 gigabytes of storage on modern consoles. The significant file size was identified in the PlayStation Store database by tracking account PlayStation Game Size ahead of the anticipated launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
According to the database findings, the initial download requirement for the upcoming Rockstar Games production reaches 210 GB. While this number denotes the package required to download the software, the actual space occupied on solid-state drives may vary once files are unpacked and fully installed. It also remains unconfirmed whether this allocation includes a day-one update or whether players will need to download an additional patch on launch day.
At 210 GB, GTA 6 would stand as one of the largest single software releases on current-generation consoles, demanding nearly twice the storage footprint of Grand Theft Auto V, which takes up roughly 100 to 110 GB on the PS5. The requirement also exceeds Rockstar's previous release, Red Dead Redemption 2, which occupies about 100 GB on older console generations and 150 GB on PC. While titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reached roughly 220 GB, that figure resulted from installing every multiplayer, campaign, and auxiliary mode simultaneously.
The heavy download footprint presents a logistical challenge for players managing internal hardware limits. On an original PlayStation 5 console, which offers about 667 GB of usable storage out of its base 825 GB internal drive, a 210 GB installation would claim nearly one-third of the available capacity. The impact is similarly severe across Microsoft systems, especially for the Xbox Series S 512 GB model, where operating system reservations leave limited drive space for large software packages.
The extensive file size matches the ambition and detail planned for the title. Set across the fictional state of Leonida and the sprawling streets of Vice City, GTA 6 features an expansive open world filled with detailed environments, side activities, and a cinematic campaign. Furthermore, unlike titles that allow users to uninstall specific components, a future multiplayer mode would likely share core assets and map data with the single-player campaign, preventing players from easily dividing the installation into separate packages.
To help users manage the large transfer, digital pre-loading is scheduled to begin on November 12, providing a full week to complete the download before the release. Reports also indicate that purchasing a physical boxed edition will not bypass the requirement, as retail copies are set to provide a digital download code rather than a physical disc. Although some accounts note Rockstar confirmed the pre-load window, the developer has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the final download size.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to unlock at midnight on November 19, carrying a listed price of $79.99 in database records. With the release approaching, console owners on both platforms are being encouraged to review their existing game libraries and free up drive capacity well before launch day.
