The Indian women's cricket team restricted Zimbabwe to 197 all-out in the first women's One Day International at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara, on Friday. Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Zimbabwe struggled to build meaningful partnerships against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Left-arm spinner Shree Charani spearheaded the bowling effort with career-best figures of 4/23 in 10 overs, including three maidens. Charani dismantled the opposition's batting lineup by removing openers Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, alongside Nyasha Gwanzura and Michelle Mavunga.

Fast bowler Kranti Gaud provided vital support by claiming 3/42. Gaud struck early in the third over by catching and bowling Loryn Phiri and later returned to execute a pinpoint yorker that dismissed Chiedza Dhururu. Gaud also claimed the prized wicket of Beloved Biza, who stood as Zimbabwe's primary source of resistance.

Biza anchored the innings with a gritty knock of 62 runs from 92 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and holding one end firm despite a regular fall of wickets around her. Michelle Mavunga also contributed an aggressive 29 runs off 23 balls toward the end of the innings, helping push the total closer to the 200-run mark before Zimbabwe were bowled out in 49.5 overs.

India's fielding performance featured a few missed opportunities that offered early lifelines to the visiting batters. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh and vice-captain Deepti Sharma both dropped regulation catches during the early stages of the match, though the bowling unit maintained control throughout the innings.

Alongside Charani and Gaud, Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets and Shafali Verma picked up one wicket to wrap up the dismissal of the lower order. Chasing a target of 198 runs, the Indian opening pair of Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana initiated a strong response as the team pursued the target in the opening match of the series.
