The India women's national cricket team secured a commanding nine-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first match of the three-game ODI series at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Friday. Displaying clinical discipline with both bat and ball, the hosts comfortably chased down a target of 198 runs with 137 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Zimbabwe faced immediate pressure under the scorching conditions. The visitors struggled against tight stump lines and subtle movement from the Indian bowling attack. Kranti Gaud made the initial breakthrough in the third over, while N. Sree Charani dismantled the middle order to finish with impressive figures of four wickets for 23 runs. Gaud also contributed significantly, picking up three wickets for 42 runs.

Despite the regular fall of wickets, 17-year-old Beloved Biza provided stiff resistance for the touring side. Biza constructed a resilient 62 runs off 92 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and bringing up her fourth ODI half-century. She found brief partnerships to push the total forward, but Zimbabwe was ultimately bowled out for 197 runs on the penultimate ball of their 49.5 overs, setting India a sub-par target.

In response, India's opening pair took complete control of the chase. Pratika Rawal delivered a stellar performance, carrying her bat through the innings with an unbeaten 100 runs from 96 balls, which included 15 boundaries. Her magnificent knock marked her third ODI century, drawing enthusiastic applause from the home dugout.

Smriti Mandhana provided a solid start alongside Rawal before falling to Olinder Chare in the 16th over. Stepping in at number three, Shafali Verma immediately injected high momentum into the game. Verma hammered an explosive, unbeaten 64 runs off just 33 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and four massive sixes.

The unbroken 106-run partnership between Rawal and Verma rapidly closed out the contest. India reached 200 for one in just 27.1 overs, comfortably sealing the win and starting their ICC Championship campaign on a strong note. Pratika Rawal was named Player of the Match for her exceptional century.

The dominant performance puts the hosts in an advantageous position ahead of the second fixture in the series. Zimbabwe will need to address their batting vulnerabilities against India's disciplined spin and pace attack if they hope to bounce back in the upcoming encounters.
