India Women Complete 3-0 Series Sweep Against Zimbabwe with 92-Run Victory
Harmanpreet Kaur's explosive unbeaten 91 and Nandani Sharma's three-wicket haul led India to a dominant win in the third T20I.
The India women's cricket team secured a comprehensive 92-run victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday, October 20, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. With this win, India completed a dominant 3-0 series sweep in the bilateral T20 international series.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 216/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Shafali Verma set an aggressive tone for the innings, striking six fours and five sixes to score 69 runs off just 37 deliveries. She was joined at the top by Anushka Sharma, who contributed a quick 28 runs off 20 balls.
Former captain Harmanpreet Kaur then took charge with a spectacular late-innings assault, remaining unbeaten on 91 runs off only 41 balls. Her remarkable knock included 10 fours and five sixes, helping propel the hosts past the 200-run mark. For Zimbabwe, Beloved Biza was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/50 in her four overs.
Facing a daunting target of 217, Zimbabwe struggled to maintain the necessary scoring rate throughout their chase. Sharne Mayers fought back with a resilient 60 runs off 49 balls, while Beloved Biza added 44 runs off 50 deliveries during an 82-run partnership for the third wicket. However, the visitors were unable to mount a serious threat to India's total.
India's bowling attack regularly struck at crucial moments to restrict Zimbabwe to 124/7 in their 20 overs. Nandani Sharma led the bowling figures with an impressive 3/18 in her four overs. Additionally, Indian pacer Arundhati Reddy reached a notable career milestone by claiming her 50th T20I wicket when she bowled Nyasha Gwanzura in the 18th over.
Harmanpreet Kaur was named Player of the Match for her explosive batting performance that safely anchored India's innings. The victory capped off a successful series for the hosts, following a tighter four-wicket win in the opening match and a commanding nine-wicket victory in the second encounter.
The defeat marked an unwanted milestone for the Zimbabwe women's cricket team, extending their losing streak in the format to 23 consecutive matches. This stands as the longest ongoing losing run in women's T20 international cricket among full member nations. Making their first-ever tour of India, the visiting side fought hard in patches but ultimately fell short across all three fixtures.
